This FREE resource is going away in 4 weeksā€¦

ā€œJessica, Iā€™d love to use you as my editorā€¦ someday when Iā€™ve written a book.ā€

I would LOVE to be your editor, but we need to get one thing in place first, and itā€™s not even a complete first draft: itā€™s your INTENTION.

Yā€™all donā€™t need an editorā€¦ what you need is a book coach.

In fact, I hear these statements on a weekly basis:

Ā· I want to write a book, but I donā€™t know what it should be about.

Ā· I want to write a book, but I just canā€™t seem to find the time.

Ā· I want to write a book, but Iā€™ve never taken a writing class, and Iā€™m afraid my writing will suck.

Ā· I want to write a book, but Iā€™m afraid no one will buy it, so Iā€™m not even going to start because it will be a huge waste of time.

Ā· I want to write a book, but Iā€™m afraid no one will read it.

Ā· I want to write a book, but Iā€™m afraid people will read it and judge me.

And on, and on. I hear you, and I have good newsā€”creating a book for your brand or business can be easier than you think.

Yes, you need strategy. But you also need mindset. And itā€™s not a ā€œchicken or the eggā€ problemā€”mindset should always be put in place first, or your strategy will fall flat.

If you donā€™t get into the right mindset by setting your intention, youā€™ll get writerā€™s block, resist showing your work to an editor, or sabotage yourself from publishing.

Here are some quick tips to set the right intention before starting work on your book:

1. The topic of your book should feel deeply personal. You want to feel compelled to share this topic with complete strangers.

2. Donā€™t find time to write a bookā€”make time. Put a time container on it, get yourself an accountability buddy, and take action like itā€™s the Olympic games of book writing.

3. Go to a bookstore or browse Amazon for your favorite titles in any genre and remind yourself that many (perhaps all) of those titles were written by someone without any formal writing training.

4. Think about how your book could help one person. Just one person. And then decide that one person is worth the time and effort.

5. Start soliciting your network and/or audience for their thoughts on your planned book topic. Itā€™s not about writing exclusively by committee, but itā€™s about reminding yourself that yours is a relevant, worthy topic.

6. Remember, people WILL read your book. Write for the people you know are going to love your book, prepare yourself for the 1-star reviews, and then think, ā€œTo hell with ā€˜em.ā€

The beauty of it is, you can use these 6 simple tips to create pretty much anything else in your business, whether services or products.

Start with mindset. Set your intention. The strategy will follow. The stars will align, your book will get written, and boomā€”your mission will continuously impact people new to your brand or biz.

The goal is to get your mindset right so that you can execute the strategy with ease.

Before you know it, youā€™ll feel energized about your book, making planning it a breeze, saving you from almost certain writerā€™s block, and carrying you through the editing process without proverbial wounds to lick.

Sometimes, youā€™re just too caught up by work- and life-related responsibilities. Itā€™s hard to take on a new project when youā€™ve never done it before.

But Iā€™m willing to bet youā€™ve taken on challenges in the past and hit them outta the park. Maybe you built a website for your business, or sat for 37 interviews to land your dream job, or learned a new language (bonjour!).

And thatā€™s why intention is so important. Without intention, you wouldnā€™t have followed through on those challenges.

Still on the fence? Need a brainstorming buddy? Want support setting your intention for the Olympic games of writing your book? Schedule a free, no-pressure, casual 30-minute call with meā€”Iā€™d love to see how I can help.
