Tiny steps... ✨HUGE difference

If you’ve read James Clear, you’re familiar with the concept of atomic habits.

I’ve you’ve been living under a rock, I’ll leave you with another wise man’s words:

A tree as big as a man’s embrace springs from a tiny sprout.

A tower nine stories high begins with a heap of earth.

A journey of a thousand leagues starts from where your feet stand.

— Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching

Today I wanted to remind you of how powerful your first steps are, even if they are tiny ones.

If there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that getting started is often the hardest part.

Writers know this too. You can’t write a book without writing the first sentence. And then many more. If you get writer’s block along the way, you have to CHOOSE to write the next sentence.

That’s what my client learned. He sought my guidance when he got stuck about a third of the way through writing his book. I read his partial manuscript and offered a new way to frame his core message and connect with his readers.

He came away with a new vision for his book and found the motivation to keep writing.

He’s got a lot going on in his life (running a spiritual retreat, hosting in-person conferences, and mentoring). He could have just let go of writing his book. But he knew he needed the right guide to get started again. He’s now happily chipping away at his manuscript.

I LOVE looking at all the different facets of the writing craft, and I could talk about creating a book for your brand or business ALL. DAY. LONG.

I love it because, as in all things, tiny steps make a huge difference.

For example…

Let’s say you want to write a brand book but don’t know where to start.

What if you could craft the very first sentence of your book TODAY?

But only if you know WHAT you’ll write your book about, and I’ve found that’s where most people get stuck:

“I know I need to start, but I don’t know what to do first, and I’m scared of doing it wrong and wasting all that time.”

I got you.

We can always chat about your book dreams and how to make them a reality, but if you want to empower yourself to get started writing TODAY, then writing prompts are the PERFECT place to start.

Why?

1. Essentially, all you’re doing is brainstorming. And if you think you won’t be able to come up with any ideas, remind yourself that you ARE creative. You get new ideas all the time! (On walks, under the shower… just me?)

2. You are not beholden to your responses to the prompts. Even if your responses never make it into your book exactly as you first formulated them, they serve the purpose of driving you toward a more perfect central idea.

You can use my prompts for writing your brand book RIGHT NOW and feel accomplished. The best part—they’re available to you as a free download!

I have been diligently taking tiny steps myself to create a small digital product to help you come up with the core message of your next book, and to outline it FAST.

These prompts will likely be included in this upcoming paid product. But I didn’t see the point of waiting to share them with you.

These aren’t your tired, overdone “What’s your Why?” and “What’s your reader avatar?” prompts.

They will give you an even more targeted direction in positioning yourself as a guide to your readers, superheroes themselves.

You might think you don’t have time to write. But you could begin chipping away at the core message of your next book by taking 5 minutes a day to answer 1 of these prompts.

Click the button below to download your prompts while they’re still free!

Happy writing,

Jessica
